Kate Adams is an American illustrator based on the East Coast. An avid reader, her work often depicts characters and scenes in luminous scratchboard illustrations. Each piece begins as a black surface that is scraped away line by line with a knife to reveal the white layer underneath. This traditional technique allows for subtle shifts of value, and a brilliant quality of light.
Her personal project, titled Nocturne, is a series of illustrations based on a fantasy novel she is developing. You can see all of her current Nocturne pieces in the Personal Work section.

Kate graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration and a concentration in English. Her work has appeared in Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art as well as magazines such as Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art and Design.
